Studying Japanese

A blog about my path to learning Japanese and other life lessons. Check out the latest post in the section to the right ->

There’s something about learning a language that feels a lot like stepping into a crowded izakaya alone. You don’t know the rules, the rhythm. You fumble through, hoping not to embarrass yourself, not to order something that might kill you — or worse, make you look like an idiot. I’ve been there. Still am, most days. This is a blog about that process. About stepping into a world where you don’t belong — yet. About the frustration of forgetting a word just when you need it, the small victories of getting through a conversation without defaulting to English. It’s about Japan, about love, about trying to build something real in a place that was once just a postcard. There will be missteps. There will be bad study habits, broken streaks, and moments of wanting to throw a textbook out the window. But there will also be progress. Growth. The kind of learning that doesn’t come from an app but from getting lost and figuring it out anyway. So if you’re here for a polished, step — by — step guide to fluency, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you want the raw, unfiltered truth of learning Japanese — one forgotten kanji, one awkward conversation, one late — night bowl of ramen at a time — stick around. Welcome to the journey. It won’t be perfect. But then again, the best stories never are.
